One Tree camping area (fenced)

One Tree suits campers who want a fenced, small-scale family base close to Eurong and are comfortable bringing every essential. It is not a serviced campground: the fence does not add toilets, taps, showers, bins, power or reliable reception. It is also not for 2WDs, on-road caravans or a last-minute arrival that ignores tides.

Best site for actual needs#

The official campground map and live booking categories resolve choices that a generic description misses:

Sites 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 complete the four-person tent inventory. QPWS calls the tent category walk-in; the map shows shared parking symbols, but it does not publish carry distances. Dimensions and positions do not prove level ground, guaranteed shade, privacy, drainage or wheelchair access. Inspect the actual pad before unloading and call 13 QGOV (13 74 68) if mobility or gear-carry is decisive.

Access and turn-back plan#

One Tree sits behind the eastern foredune about 800m north of Eurong. Access requires a high-clearance 4WD with low range and, for the two trailer sites, an off-road trailer. The Eastern Beach scenic drive is available only two hours either side of low tide.

From Inskip Point, reduce tyre pressure before the sand, take the 10–15 minute barge to Hook Point and drive north inside the tide window. From River Heads, pre-book the fixed-time western barge and verify the current inland track to Eurong. Carry the separate K'gari vehicle access permit, barge booking and camping permit. If the barge landing, creek crossings or beach exit are badly eroded or outside the safe tide window, turn back or wait in a legal safe place—do not race the sea.

Arrival and first hour#

1. Arrive after 2pm with daylight and tide margin.
2. Use the signed entrance and follow the map's one-way loop; do not reverse the circulation with a trailer.
3. Close the wongari-deterrent gate immediately.
4. Find the booked number and confirm the equipment category before unhitching.
5. Inspect sand firmness, branches, drainage, fence clearance and the exit line.
6. Park only where signed and carry tent gear without blocking the loop.
7. Set up the portable toilet, water and locked food/rubbish system first.
8. Display the booking tag and keep every gate closed.

There is no published reception. Checkout is before 11am, so build the departure around both that time and the next usable beach window.

Booking, cost and comfort reality#

Camping fees checked on 1 October 2026 are $7.75 per person per night or $31 per family per night, with children under five free under the QPWS definition. The K'gari vehicle permit—currently $61.80 for one month or less—and barge fare are additional. The booking surface, not this article, controls live availability and the final total.

There are no toilets, water, showers, bins or power. Bring a portable toilet, all water, stove, rubbish storage, insect repellent, sand pegs, first aid and offline navigation. QPWS identifies water 500m south at Eurong and a portable-waste point 2km north at the Cornwells Road eastern-beach entrance. Open fires are prohibited. Generators under 65dB(A)/2.0kVA may run only 9am–9pm. Reception is intermittent; do not base safety on a signal.

A worthwhile day from a central base#

The Lake Wabby lookout walk is the clearest short objective: QPWS describes a 900m lookout walk from the western access. It is a drive from camp, not a stroll from the tent, and planned track maintenance was listed through 9 November 2026. Check the alert before leaving, then pair the walk with a tide-safe return and a beach stop that does not treat the surf as safe swimming. Keep children within arm's reach outside the fence.

What campers say#

Specific public evidence is limited. Searches checked Reddit, public Facebook results, campground guides and review pages on 1 October 2026.

• One recent Reddit contributor reported towing a 13ft hybrid and spending one night at One Tree with children while deliberately choosing fenced camps. This is useful equipment context, not proof that every hybrid fits sites 6 or 10.
• The same traveller preferred Waddy Point overall, showing the trade-off: One Tree's value is its Eurong/Lake Wabby position and compact fenced layout, not a guaranteed “best on K'gari” experience.
• No two independent reports establish the quietest, cleanest or shadiest number. Use the official dimensions and live category instead.

Alternatives#

• Wongai fenced camping area lies south of Eurong and has three current trailer-category numbers, but its linked public plan was unavailable during this review.
• Dundubara camping area is better when toilets, showers and treated water matter; accept a much farther north location.
• Beach camping zone 2 provides unfenced open camping nearby. Choose it for open-zone flexibility, not when the family is relying on a wongari-deterrent fence.

Recheck site category, dimensions, tides, barge, weather, conditions report and alerts immediately before travel. Sand firmness, shade, carry distance and neighbour noise remain volatile or unpublished.
