For developers and AI agents

Australian campground API and MCP server

Search supported Australian campgrounds, check availability and manage phone-linked alerts from your app or AI assistant. CampWatch provides both a REST API and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server: a standard way for AI agents to call tools.

Connect an AI agent with MCP

Add this remote server URL to a client that supports Streamable HTTP. No local server or package install is needed.

https://www.campwatch.com.au/mcp

For clients that use an mcpServers configuration:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "campwatch": {
      "url": "https://www.campwatch.com.au/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Public search and availability tools need no account. Private tools require OAuth phone account linking. The server recognises ChatGPT’s official client identity; other clients must first register their client ID and exact callback URLs with [email protected]. Automatic client registration is not available.

Try: “Find supported beach campgrounds in NSW.” Then check a returned campground for your dates. Before creating an alert, approve the campground, dates, party size and SMS delivery. SMS settings apply to all alerts on the linked account.

OAuth discovery: protected resource and authorization server. Link your Australian mobile number on the CampWatch page. Never send an SMS code, access token or card details in chat.

Use the campground REST API

REST uses ordinary HTTPS requests and JSON responses. Start with public catalogue search. Use the returned provider and slug rather than inventing campground identifiers.

curl --get 'https://www.campwatch.com.au/api/v1/campgrounds' \
  --data-urlencode 'q=beach' \
  --data-urlencode 'state=NSW' \
  --data-urlencode 'limit=5'

Read the OpenAPI contract for exact request and response fields, and the agent guide for secure sign-in, alert lifecycle and retries.

GET /api/v1/providers
Supported booking systems and regions.
GET /api/v1/campgrounds
Search and paginate supported campgrounds. Read data.nextCursor for the next page.
GET /api/v1/campgrounds/{provider}/{slug}/availability
Pass checkIn, checkOut and adults. The response is a server-sent event stream. Read its result or error event; HTTP 200 alone does not mean availability was checked successfully.
/api/v1/watches · /api/v1/credits/balance
Manage the authenticated account’s alerts and read its existing credits. Private requests need an Authorization: Bearer token.

Before an agent takes action

  • Check live capabilities before connecting. Public endpoints are rate limited; honour Retry-After on HTTP 429.
  • Ask for approval before creating alerts or changing account-wide notification settings. Reuse the same idempotency key and request body on retries to avoid duplicate alerts.
  • Use the account’s existing credits. MCP tools cannot buy credits or start subscriptions. Direct API payments are disabled in the current release.
  • Availability is a snapshot. An alert does not reserve a campsite, buy a permit or guarantee a booking. Complete bookings with the official provider.
