Termeil Point campground

Termeil Point campground is a 12-site coastal bush camp in the southern part of Meroo National Park. The beach and Termeil Lake are close, but this is not a serviced holiday park: access is currently 4WD-only, water and showers are absent, and every site must be booked.

Sites and setup fit#

All 12 marked sites are listed for tents, camper trailers, caravans and motorhomes. Log or fence boundaries define the bays and dimensions vary, so a setup that fits one site may not fit another. Check the selected bay in the official Termeil Point listing before paying.

NPWS notes that the small campground is popular and can fill over summer. Camping outside a designated site is not allowed, making a confirmed booking and a backup campground important during peak periods.

Current access rules#

From the Princes Highway about 14km south of Ulladulla, turn onto Blackbutt Road, continue roughly 2km to the fork, then follow the right branch for about 600m to the campground.

The current NPWS visitor page lists all access roads as requiring 4WD and dry weather. The unsealed road can become boggy after rain. Some older traveller articles describe 2WD access; follow the current official rule instead of those historical reports.

Facilities and supplies#

Facilities include non-flush toilets, unpowered marked sites and a carpark. There is no drinking or cooking water, no shower and no rubbish collection. Carry all water and pack out everything you bring in.

Picnic tables are available at nearby Stokes Island and Termeil Beach picnic areas rather than being a feature to expect beside every campsite. The marked bays are bounded by logs or fences, so keep awnings, ropes and vehicles within the booked space. That matters when all 12 sites are occupied and manoeuvring room is limited.

NPWS lists firewood and a fuel stove among the items to bring, but current fire permissions and facilities can change. A fuel stove is the dependable cooking plan. Basic supplies are available at Tabourie, Burrill Lake and Ulladulla, with Tabourie the closest.

Beach, lake and safety#

Termeil Beach and the coastal lake support fishing, paddling, walking and wildlife watching. Ocean beaches in the park are unpatrolled and can have strong rips, so check Beachsafe conditions and use a patrolled beach for safer swimming.

Camp only within the marked bay because NPWS identifies a high risk from falling branches, especially in wind. Mobile reception is limited. Download maps and review local alerts before turning off the highway.

For paddling, assess wind and lake conditions before launching and carry the equipment appropriate to the waterway. For beach fishing or rock fishing, use the official coastal safety advice rather than judging risk from the campground. A strong wind forecast affects the trees above camp as well as comfort on the beach.

What campers say#

Public evidence is useful but limited, and access comments can date quickly.

• A recent Reddit stay post mentions wallabies, audible surf and a short dirt-road approach.
• Older accounts calling the road 2WD-friendly no longer match the official page. Treat 4WD and dry-weather access as the current requirement.
• The ocean soundtrack is part of the appeal, but wind and falling-branch risk make site setup and forecast checks important.

Booking checklist#

Book the exact bay, confirm your rig fits, and recheck rain, wind, alerts and the 4WD requirement. Bring every litre of drinking and cooking water, a fuel stove, rubbish bags and offline directions.
