Station Creek campground is a 29-site camp beside a calm estuary in the southern part of Yuraygir National Park. Swimming, fishing and paddling are close to camp, and the ocean beach is about a 600m walk away. Its relative isolation is central to the experience—and to the planning.
Access requires a high-clearance 4WD. Suitable high-clearance camper trailers and caravans up to 4.6m are accepted, but this is not conventional all-vehicle caravan access. There is no water and mobile reception across the park is limited.
Sites and rig suitability#
The official campground page lists 29 marked, unpowered sites. Camping options include tents, camping beside your vehicle, high-clearance camper trailers and high-clearance caravans no longer than 4.6m.
Parking is arranged in nodes for vehicle-based and tent-based camping. Ground around the campground includes grass, hard-packed surfaces and soft sand. That variety is useful context for pegs, levelling and mobility, but it does not override the official vehicle requirement.
Facilities and what to bring#
The visitor information lists accessible non-flush toilets, wood barbecues, picnic tables and rubbish bins. Firewood can be purchased at the campground or brought with you.
Water is not available. Carry enough for the whole stay, including cooking and washing, plus a reserve in case the exit road changes after rain. Bring a fuel stove even if you plan to use a wood barbecue, because fire bans and restrictions can remove that option. Generators and pets are prohibited, and NSW national parks are smoke-free.
High-clearance 4WD access#
From the Pacific Highway, the signed route uses McPhillips Road and Barcoongere Way. NSW National Parks requires a high-clearance 4WD and suitable high-clearance trailer or caravan. Water crossings can change quickly and the road can become boggy after rain.
Access also depends on Clarence Valley Council and Forestry Corporation roads. When this guide was reviewed on 10 September 2026, the local alerts warned of logging trucks on McPhillips Road and changed public access near the removed canoe launch and viewing platform through 31 December 2026. Slow down, expect heavy vehicles and re-check every alert before departure.
Mobile reception is limited in Yuraygir National Park. Save maps, booking details and emergency information offline. Park entry fees apply in addition to camping charges; check current amounts with NPWS.
Creek, beach and safety#
The estuary is the convenient place for a paddle, swim or fish near camp, while the beach requires a short walk. Ocean beaches in the park are unpatrolled and may have strong rips. Use Beachsafe to find a patrolled beach and do not transfer calm-creek expectations to the surf.
Birdlife is another reason to slow down, with the campground page specifically noting brolgas and other waterbirds. Keep food secure and give wildlife space.

Public review coverage is limited, but multiple public videos—including a campground walk-around, an estuary-focused visit and a longer camping film—show useful, campground-specific context. The qualified themes are:
- the sheltered estuary is the social and recreational focus of a stay
- the layout mixes open grass, firmer ground and sandy patches, so setup conditions vary
- the beach walk adds variety without putting surf directly beside every site
- the rough approach is part of the trip and makes a daylight arrival sensible
