Little Beach campground

Little Beach campground has only six marked, unpowered tent sites tucked above a small cove in Bouddi National Park. Its compact size and walk-in approach keep it quieter than a drive-in holiday campground, but they also make availability scarce and packing mistakes more noticeable.

This is a tent-only stay. Rooftop tents and sleeping in the car are not possible because vehicles remain in the public car park. Book before arriving; the campground is not designed for an unplanned overflow stay.

The 750m gear carry#

Park at the end of Grahame Drive and follow Little Beach Trail for about 750m. NSW National Parks describes it as a gravel management trail with short uphill sections. A wheelbarrow can make the carry easier, but lightweight gear is still the practical choice. There is no wheelchair access, and the route will feel more demanding with water, food and a large family tent.

The road to the car park is sealed and normally suitable for 2WD vehicles in all weather. Confirm directions and closures on the official campground page before leaving, and do not leave valuables visible in the car.

Sites, facilities and beach safety#

The six sites are marked, unpowered and intended for tents. A covered shelter contains a free gas barbecue, and there are picnic tables, bins and non-flush toilets. There is no drinking water, shower or electricity. Carry enough water for the stay and bring a fuel stove in case the shared barbecue is occupied or unavailable.

Wood fires are prohibited at both the campground and beach. Generators, amplified music and pets are also not allowed. Mobile reception is limited, so download booking details and maps before the walk in.

Little Beach is unpatrolled and can have strong rips. Treat it as a scenic cove rather than assuming calm-looking water is safe. Rock fishers should follow NSW safety guidance and wear a lifejacket. Check the campground's local alerts close to departure; as reviewed on 13 September 2026, a 1080 baiting program in Bouddi National Park was scheduled through 25 September 2026.

Make the small campground work#

Because every item has to travel the same 750m trail, pack water into several manageable containers rather than one heavy vessel. Keep the final climb out in mind when planning rubbish, wet gear and food. A compact trolley or wheelbarrow helps on the management trail, but it does not remove the short grades or guarantee easy rolling after rain.

Six sites also means little redundancy. Bring a head torch for the path to the non-flush toilet, a cooking backup and a repair kit for essential shelter. Respect quiet hours and keep gear within the marked pitch: the intimate layout is part of the appeal, but voices and lights travel easily between neighbouring tents.

What campers say#

Useful public commentary is fairly sparse, but the available reports agree on the central trade-off:

• A family trip report describes the cove as relaxed and attractive for paddling and exploring rock formations, while cautioning that it did not feel like a dependable swimming beach.
• A 2025 OutdoorAus discussion recommends the setting and estimates roughly a 10-minute walk from the car park, but also flags the need to book and carry gear.
• With only six sites and one shared cooking shelter, pack to be self-reliant rather than counting on spare space or an immediately available barbecue.

Book and check current fees through NSW National Parks. Online reservations are capped at two sites or 12 people, and group bookings are not offered. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 10am.
