Warroora Station's Homestead campground suits campers who want a working-station base with toilets, bore-water showers and a camp kitchen, then drive to the Ningaloo coast. It is not beachfront, powered or a safe 2WD beach-camping shortcut.
Choose the right Warroora experience#
| Choose the Homestead if… | Choose another option if… |
|---|---|
| You value a shower, toilet, basic kitchen and bins after coastal day trips. | You need power, potable tap water or reliable mobile reception. |
| You have a big rig and want a large unpowered station site. | Your main goal is to camp on the sand beside the reef; those are separate DBCA campgrounds. |
| You can accept a 23km station approach and may have 4WD for the coast. | You have only 2WD in wet conditions or need guaranteed easy beach access. |
The identity matters: the operator's campground page is for the Homestead, about 2km from the beach. Coastal places such as 14 Mile, The Lagoon and Sandy Point are booked with DBCA and have their own self-sufficiency and access rules.
Which site should you choose?#
The operator does not publish a numbered site plan or pitch dimensions. Do not infer a beachfront, shaded or private pitch from the station map.
- Big rig: state total length and turning needs in the booking; large rigs are accepted, but allocation is operator-led.
- Quiet from generators: ask for the furthest available site from the designated generator zone; generators may run 8am–6pm.
- Dog: declare the dog and request a site suitable for keeping it leashed without obstructing neighbours.
- Amenity priority: ask reception for the shortest practical route to toilets, showers and camp kitchen.
- 2WD: ask whether the currently open entry and your allocated area are suitable for your vehicle after recent weather.
Booking, price and cancellation#
Book the Homestead through the operator's live portal. Price depends on dates and party mix; children aged 2–15 are charged and infants under two are free. Treat the checkout total as the quote.
The current operator policy charges modification fees and scales cancellation loss by notice: 20% at 21+ days, 50% at 7–21 days, and 100% inside seven days or for a no-show. It also says external conditions such as weather and road closures do not trigger refunds. Read the terms shown at payment because policies can change.
What arrival is actually like#
Warroora is one hour south of Coral Bay and 23km off the highway. The current operator FAQ, checked 1 October 2026, says the south road remains closed after Lyndon River flooding and the north entry is open. That is a live condition, not a permanent route rule.
Camping check-in is 11am–5pm, reception operates 8am–5pm and checkout is 11am. Arrive with daylight and enough fuel to reverse course if the access advice changes. At reception, confirm the site, current fire status, beach-track condition and the return route before unhitching. A Homestead booking does not authorise coastal camping.
Facilities, setup and safety#
- Sites are unpowered. Bring all drinking water; bore water is non-potable and for cooking/domestic use only.
- The Homestead has basic toilets, bore-water showers, camp kitchen, bins and paid laundry.
- Generators are limited to designated zones from 8am to 6pm. Quiet hours are 10pm–8am.
- Buy firewood at the office; do not collect it. Fires depend on the current Gascoyne Coast fire conditions.
- Dogs must remain leashed. Motorbikes, quad bikes, hunting and firearms are prohibited.
- Reception has a Telstra 4G booster, but the operator describes reception as limited elsewhere.
There are no lifeguards. The operator warns of rips and currents, and most coastal tracks require 4WD. Treat a beach visit as a separate vehicle-and-water decision, not an amenity attached to the campsite.
A worthwhile day#
With a suitable 4WD and current track advice, plan a coast day rather than an improvised drive. The operator identifies Stevens as the closest snorkelling option and Pelican Point/Bakers Dozen as a stronger snorkelling objective, reached by walking south around the point for about 30 minutes and only at high tide. Reconfirm the track status, tide, current and sanctuary-zone rules at reception; turn back if sand, water or visibility exceeds your experience. A 2WD party should ask for the currently reachable shoreline option and accept that conditions may rule it out.
What campers say#
Anycamp and Tripadvisor were checked alongside Reddit and public trip reports. Several independent stays distinguish the amenity-equipped Homestead from the more basic coast and describe the station approach as long or corrugated; reports disagree on how easy 2WD access feels. That matches the operator's weather-dependent wording: confirm the road rather than treating an old successful drive as a guarantee. Reports on campground spaciousness also vary by allocated/overflow area.
Alternatives#
- Warroora Coast campgrounds: choose these for a coast-first stay if you have the required vehicle and self-sufficiency. DBCA booking, chemical-toilet and site-specific access rules replace the Homestead's amenities.
- Coral Bay holiday parks: choose town accommodation for easier services and walkable supplies. The trade-off is less station solitude and a drive to Warroora's coast.
Recheck before leaving#
Contact Warroora on 08 9942 5920 on the travel day for the open entry, wet-road suitability, arrival window and beach-track status. Recheck the Gascoyne Coast fire rating and your live booking terms. If the south road reopens or another closure appears, follow the operator's route—not a saved map.
If the Homestead is sold out, set up a free CampWatch alert and we'll text you when a cancellation opens.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is Warroora Station campground on the beach?
No. The Homestead campground is about 2km inland. DBCA manages the separate coastal campgrounds, which have different access, facilities and booking rules.
Can a 2WD reach Warroora Homestead?
The operator says 2WD access is possible only in favourable, dry conditions. Most coastal tracks need a 4WD; confirm the open entry and road condition before leaving the highway.
Is drinking water or power supplied?
Sites are unpowered and there is no drinking water. Bring drinking water. Non-potable bore water is available for domestic use.
Are dogs allowed?
Leashed dogs are allowed at the Homestead campground under the owner's control. That does not establish permission at DBCA coastal campgrounds.
