Kirra Beach Tourist Park

Plan a Kirra Beach Tourist Park stay with powered and tent site details, dog rules, facilities, airport-noise context, cancellation terms and camper tips.

Kirra Beach Tourist Park is a leafy southern Gold Coast park near Coolangatta, the airport and several well-known surf beaches. It offers something increasingly unusual near the coast: powered touring sites, dedicated tent camping and a substantial dog-friendly section in the same park.

The trade-off is location noise. The airport and Gold Coast Highway make Kirra more connected than secluded, so site category and position matter—especially for tent campers and light sleepers.

Location and arrival#

Address: 10 Charlotte Street, Coolangatta QLD 4225

The official park map marks a beach route at about 600m, while the park overview describes Kirra Beach as about 1km away. Southern Cross University and Gold Coast Airport are nearby, and Coolangatta, Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks are a short drive or cycle from the park.

Sites check in from 11am and check out by 10am. Arrange after-hours access before travelling; arrivals after 8:30pm are not permitted under the current terms. Site rates include one vehicle, and accurate full-rig dimensions are required for allocation.

Choosing the right camping category#

Kirra separates ordinary touring, dog-friendly and tent inventory:

  • Powered van sites have a concrete slab, powerhead and sullage connection. They accept a range of vans, camper trailers and campervans but are not pet-friendly.
  • Premium dog-friendly powered sites are extra-large grassed positions for touring setups travelling with dogs.
  • Dog-friendly powered sites vary in size and suit vans or camper trailers, not tents.
  • Powered tent sites are grassed 8m × 8m sites with power and sullage. They currently cannot be booked online; call the park.
  • Unpowered tent sites are for tents without power.

The site pages set a maximum of six guests. Base rates cover two people, with extra nightly charges currently shown as $10 for children aged 4–15 and $15 for adults. Dimensions and rates can change, so rely on the live quote and confirmation.

Preferred site numbers are requests only. The map shows powered camping spread across internal grass roads, dog-friendly areas toward the back gate and lake, and tent sites interspersed through several sections. Ask reception about the most suitable location for your equipment, dog and noise tolerance.

Facilities and connectivity#

Facilities shown on the official map include a swimming pool, playground, bouncing pillow, recreation room, camp kitchen, barbecues, multiple amenity/laundry buildings and a chemical dump point. The office has a kiosk, and a dog wash sits near the rear gate.

The guest information page says there is no park Wi-Fi but reports excellent mobile coverage and 5G in most areas. That makes mobile data the practical option, though exact carrier performance is not guaranteed.

Generators, open fires and electric rideables are prohibited. Standard bikes and scooters can be ridden on park roads in daylight under the operator's safety rules. Quiet time is 9pm–8am, but that rule does not control aircraft or highway noise outside the park.

Camping with a dog#

Dogs are welcome on application only in dedicated categories. The dog-friendly powered-site page limits each site to two dogs and requires proof of current vaccination at check-in. Dog-friendly camping is not available to tent travellers.

Within the park, dogs must remain leashed and under control and cannot enter shared amenities, the camp kitchen or other public facilities. The central grassed area gives dogs room to stretch their legs, and the operator supplies a complimentary first dog-wash token for eligible bookings. Do not assume a non-pet powered site can be converted when dog-friendly inventory sells out.

What campers say#

Recent Tripadvisor reviews, CamperMate reports and public Google excerpts on the official page reveal several consistent trade-offs:

  • Clean amenities, helpful staff and the pool/play areas recur as positives, including in late-2025 reports.
  • Dog owners value the dedicated sites, grassed exercise space, wash facility and ability to walk toward the beach and cafes.
  • Aircraft and highway noise are repeated themes across independent sources. Some guests accept it as part of the convenient location; others find it intrusive.
  • The leafy setting provides shade on many sites, but shade and space vary. Exact rig details and a position request are more useful than assuming every site is alike.
  • Mosquitoes are mentioned in operator-displayed Google excerpts and are plausible around the internal lakes. Bring repellent rather than relying on conditions being clear.

These are traveller-reported observations, not guarantees about noise, insects, shade, cleanliness or site allocation.

Booking and cancellation terms#

Use the official booking portal for online categories, and phone the park for powered tent sites. Off-peak bookings require the first night's deposit and the balance on arrival; peak stays are paid in full when booked.

Written off-peak cancellations within 28 days forfeit the deposit. Peak charges are 25% of the booking from 40–29 days, 50% from 28–15 days and no refund at 14 days or less. Minimum stays and dynamic rates vary by date.
