Borumba Deer Park

Plan a Borumba Deer Park camping trip near Imbil, with site-area guidance, facilities, pet and fire rules, prices, check-in times and booking tips.

Borumba Deer Park is a family-owned campground on the banks of Yabba Creek in Queensland's Mary Valley. Spread across about 30 acres, it combines powered and unpowered camping with creek access, deer paddocks and enough facilities for a comfortable family stay. It feels more like a roomy country campground than a tightly packed holiday park, but choosing the right camping area matters: some sites are near the creek, some face the deer, and only selected areas have power.

Getting there#

Address: 1133 Yabba Creek Road, Imbil QLD 4570

The campground is about 10 minutes west of Imbil and roughly five minutes by road from Lake Borumba, according to the operator. Use the street address for navigation and check current road and weather conditions before leaving, particularly after heavy rain in the Mary Valley.

Camping check-in is from 12pm and check-out is by 10am. The park advertises onsite caretakers around the clock, but arrivals after 7pm need to be arranged with the kiosk and may attract a late-arrival fee. Contact the park before setting out if you expect to miss normal check-in.

Choosing a camping area#

There is no single best part of Borumba Deer Park; the useful choice is the area that matches your setup and priorities:

  • Sherwood Forest: a large mix of powered and unpowered sites with its own toilets, showers, barbecue area and playground. Most sites have fireplaces. This is also the only area where generators may be approved, and the dog off-lead area is nearby.
  • Creek Street: large, shaded unpowered sites a short walk from Yabba Creek and the amenities. Most sites have fireplaces, and pets are accepted on a lead.
  • Down by the Creek: large unpowered sites directly along Yabba Creek, with firepits and stairs up to the Stockyard amenities and laundromat. Pets may visit the lower level but cannot camp in this area.
  • Sports Ground: powered sites facing the deer park. The operator says there is room to park a boat or jet ski opposite the campsite.
  • Front Row and Back Row: powered sites with water points and a dedicated concrete slab for a caravan or camper.
  • The Meadows and The Hill: additional unpowered areas offered for larger groups; contact the park rather than assuming an ordinary online site will suit a group booking.

Unpowered sites are intentionally not all marked with boundary lines. Check the official park map and ask staff to identify your space before setting up if the edges are unclear.

The published conditions specify one 10-amp outlet per powered site, not a conventional 15-amp caravan outlet. The park says 15-to-10-amp converters can be hired from the kiosk, but it also restricts high-draw appliances. Confirm your electrical setup with the operator before arrival rather than relying on a household adaptor.

Facilities and supplies#

Borumba Deer Park has two amenity blocks, at Sherwood Forest and the Stockyard. Both are described as family- and disability-friendly, with flushing toilets and free hot showers. The Stockyard also has a large indoor camp kitchen, free gas barbecues, undercover tables and seating; smaller barbecue areas are located elsewhere around the park.

Other useful facilities include:

  • a 24-hour coin-operated laundry with washers and dryers
  • an onsite caravan dump point and rinse bay near the Stockyard amenities
  • a kiosk selling basic groceries, drinks, ice, firewood and some camping supplies
  • gas-bottle refills
  • playgrounds at Sherwood Forest and the Stockyard
  • a nine-hole mini-golf course

The kiosk's published hours are 8am to 4pm daily, extending to 5pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Treat those as a guide and check directly around public holidays.

Yabba Creek and family activities#

Down by the Creek gives the most direct access to Yabba Creek for swimming, kayaking and fishing. Creek users enter at their own risk: the park requires children to be supervised, prohibits diving and jumping, bans glass at the water's edge and does not permit night swimming. Conditions can change after rain, so make the decision to enter the water based on what you find on the day.

Away from the creek, the operator promotes deer and farm-animal feeding, playgrounds, mini golf and space for cycling around camp. Lake Borumba is a short drive away, but check the relevant land manager's current access and boating advice before planning an outing beyond the campground.

Pets, generators and campfires#

Pets are welcome in most camping areas. Keep them on a lead and under responsible control everywhere except the designated off-lead area behind Sherwood Forest, clean up after them and prevent nuisance barking. Pets cannot camp Down by the Creek. The operator's pet page and its linked terms currently disagree about pet charges, although both describe conditions and a bond, so confirm the current fee and bond with the park when booking.

Generators are restricted to selected parts of Sherwood Forest and, under the published conditions, may run only between 8am and 5pm. Ask the kiosk for an approved location and keep use to a minimum.

Most camping areas have fireplaces, and portable firepits may be available on request. Fires are allowed only in firepits and only when Queensland fire restrictions permit. They must never be left unattended. Do not collect wood in the park: bring bagged wood from a reputable supplier or buy it from the kiosk.

Prices and booking conditions#

As checked on 28 August 2026, the campground advertises camping rates starting at $22 per adult and $10 per child per night. That is a starting price rather than a quote. The park's terms list a 20% surcharge and a two-night minimum during Queensland school holidays, public holidays and long weekends; site type, dates, group size and booking fees can change the final total.

Full payment is required when booking, and the operator says its online booking provider adds a non-refundable booking fee. Cancellation and change rules differ between peak and off-peak periods, with longer notice required for peak dates. Read the live terms before payment, especially for a weather-sensitive creekside trip.

Book through the official Borumba Deer Park booking portal. If you need a particular area, are bringing a large group, require accessible facilities or have an unusual electrical setup, call the park on (07) 5484 5196 before paying.

What campers say#

Across public camping discussions, Borumba Deer Park is most often recommended as an active family campground rather than a secluded bush retreat:

  • A recent Queensland camping-group review highlights the family-friendly setup, children's activities and clean amenities.
  • In Reddit campground recommendations, campers particularly remember the animals and opportunities for children to interact with them.
  • Longer-running Brisbane camping discussions repeatedly mention swimming in the creek as a highlight, while another camping report praised tidy shower facilities and the ability to bring a dog.
  • Public group updates also show that wet weather can materially affect the grounds and creek. Treat the forecast and the park's latest condition update as part of site selection, especially for lower creekside areas.

These are personal experiences gathered across different dates. Activity schedules, cleanliness, creek depth and ground condition can change, so confirm time-sensitive details with the park.
