Beacon Caravan Park

Plan a Beacon Caravan Park stay in the WA Wheatbelt: compare mapped pitches, published fees, voucher limits, shared facilities and arrival details.

Beacon Caravan Park is a small-town Wheatbelt stop on Lucas Street in Beacon, Western Australia. Choose it to reset between bush camps: use the kitchen and laundry, walk through town and plan rock-country outings. It is not the similarly named resort in Victoria, and it is not a Perth suburban holiday park.

The strongest fit is a practical touring base with shared facilities and a leashed dog. It is less convincing for secluded bush camping or a children's resort holiday. The Shire's park page describes powered and unpowered camping, cabins and ensuite rooms; those private bathrooms belong to accommodation units, not every campsite.

Booking, prices and the voucher catch#

Book through the Shire of Mt Marshall link on its accommodation page or call 08 9685 1202 during business hours. Give the full rig length, awning footprint, party size and power needs, and confirm your numbered allocation and after-hours arrival procedure. A map symbol does not tell you a pitch's maximum vehicle length.

The 2026–27 fees document linked by the Shire lists Beacon van sites at $33/night or $198/week, and unpowered/tent sites at $14/night or $84/week, including GST. The Central Wheatbelt Visitor Centre shows the same figures. The Beacon community page still shows $32/$13, and the newer schedule retains a “proposed” column heading. Treat $33/$14 as published planning figures, not a live quote: confirm the payable total and any party or booking adjustments with the Shire before payment.

Published voucher terms offer $10/night, maximum five vouchers, for eligible accommodation, redeemable at participating Beacon or Bencubbin businesses. Unpowered/tent sites are excluded. This is local spending credit, not cash back or a deduction from your campsite payment. Ask which businesses currently accept it before comparing the net value of powered and unpowered stays.

The park terms say payment is due in full when booking, check-in opens at noon, checkout is 10am, and noise should be kept down after 9pm. They exclude refunds for early departure after arrival. The cancellation deadline's wording is unclear, so obtain the deadline and refund terms for your reservation in writing rather than assume a free cancellation window.

Choosing a pitch from the actual plan#

The map linked by the Shire shows 15 powered and two separately numbered unpowered pitches. This agrees with the visitor centre, not the older community page's eleven powered sites. Match both the number and category in your confirmation: powered and unpowered numbering each begins at 1.

What matters mostPitches to discussMap-based trade-off
A shorter amenities tripPowered 3–6, either side of the central ablution blockPeople using showers and laundry will pass nearby
More separation from the central kitchen and amenitiesThe outer powered row 11–15Longer walks for washing and cooking; ask about rig manoeuvring space
Using the communal kitchen often without powerUnpowered 1, shown near the kitchen and parkingShared activity nearby; unpowered 2 sits farther away at the outer end

These are relationships on a schematic plan, not noise measurements. Tree illustrations do not prove summer shade or private screening. Ask for a current pitch photo if shade or clearance matters; arrive prepared with your own shade that fits the permitted footprint. Do not treat blank green space on the drawing as extra camping area.

Getting there and settling in#

The town's location information places Beacon about 320km northeast of Perth and 42km north of Bencubbin. Navigate to Lucas Street and the park entrance shown on the plan, not to an identically named interstate property. Check Main Roads travel information for your route and the Shire for any local-road restrictions after rain; do not follow an unverified gravel shortcut with a large rig.

Before leaving reliable reception, save the booking, map and arrival instructions. The plan prints a caretaker number, 0428 851 288; confirm with the Shire that this is the right contact for your arrival rather than expecting a staffed 24-hour reception.

On arrival, locate your allocated category and number before unhitching. Check the surface, levelling needs, awning clearance and the connection you are authorised to use. Walk to the ablution block and kitchen to understand the shared routes. The plan points towards a town dump point, not one at every pitch; get its exact location and current access before emptying a chemical toilet.

Comfort, access and travelling with children or dogs#

The park publishes showers, toilets, an accessible toilet and shower, laundry, a campers' kitchen and barbecue. The community page says washing machines and the dryer are available without an extra charge to paying guests. The Shire's newer fee schedule says casual shower or laundry users need at least an unpowered-site booking, so an old casual-shower price is not reliable.

Bring your own food and a drinking-water reserve. Ask which tap is potable and whether your booked pitch has its own connection before relying on a full tank refill; the schematic does not show individual taps. Check the shower and kitchen access arrangements in your arrival instructions. A shared kitchen is a useful comfort upgrade, but it can be occupied when you want to cook.

Accessible bathroom facilities do not establish a continuous smooth route from every site. Ask about the specific pitch-to-bathroom surface and doorway requirements if you use mobility equipment. Keep children clear of the central vehicle loop and reversing rigs. Dogs must be leashed, waste removed, and pets kept out of onsite accommodation. Guests under 18 need a parent or guardian. Use the supplied cooking facilities and confirm current fire restrictions before bringing a brazier; no campsite-fire entitlement is established by the public information.

A day that does not require another long drive#

The Beacon Historic Walking Trail covers 2km in about an hour at a leisurely pace, with ten information plaques. Start at plaque one by the primary school on Broadbent Street, or join the trail elsewhere. Add the walk from camp and your return to the quoted trail distance; do not assume the final plaque delivers you back to your pitch. Carry water, choose a cooler part of the day and turn back early if heat makes the outing uncomfortable.

For a museum visit, the Shire lists Beacon Museum on Hamilton Street as appointment-only, on 0417 851 888. Arrange it before building your day around a visit. Check local meal and shop opening hours too, particularly on weekends, and keep a meal in the van as a fallback.

What campers say#

Three CamperMate reports from 2019–2021 and an independent September 2025 touring diary provide a limited sample:

  • The kitchen and clean facilities receive praise in separate accounts, making a washing-and-cooking stop a better-supported expectation than resort entertainment.
  • Older visitors describe a quiet, walkable town base. That is a recurring impression, not a guarantee for your dates or a particular pitch.
  • A 2021 camper described dirt/gravel and little shade, while the community page advertises shady sites. Ask about your pitch instead of assuming either description covers the whole park today.
  • The 2025 visitors found the fuel outlet easy to miss and experienced cold wind. Save fuel directions before arriving and pack layers even for a spring wildflower trip. Neither observation establishes year-round conditions.

When to stay elsewhere#

Bencubbin Caravan Park offers powered and unpowered sites, a kitchen, laundry and accessible facilities close to that town's services. Choose it when your route or plans centre on Bencubbin; it is another serviced town camp, not a wilderness alternative.

Billiburning Rock offers a different trade-off: the Shire describes a camping area with van access but no services. Its route runs north from Beacon on Ingleton Road for 30km, then another 3km north on White Road to the left-hand entrance. Choose it for bush surroundings only with water, waste capacity and a vehicle suited to current local conditions; you lose Beacon's showers, kitchen and easy resupply.

Reviewed 29 September 2026. Confirm your quote, voucher eligibility, cancellation deadline, allocation and after-hours instructions with the Shire. No live availability or reliable mobile signal at an individual pitch is promised.
