Noosa North Shore Beach Campground

Noosa North Shore Beach Campground is a nature-based campground behind the dunes at the southern gateway to the Cooloola Coast. It combines powered and unpowered camping with direct beach access, bushland and a much less developed atmosphere than Noosaville's holiday parks.

You do not need a 4WD to reach the campground itself. The trade-offs are a vehicle-ferry crossing, minimal lighting, wildlife around camp and an unpatrolled beach. A 4WD and permit are separate requirements if you plan to drive beyond the sealed access road and onto the beach.

Ferry access and check-in#

The current park rules direct guests to the Noosa North Shore Ferries at Moorindil Street, Tewantin, followed by a 7.5km sealed road. Check current ferry operating details and fares with the ferry operator before travelling.

Check-in is 11am–6pm Saturday to Thursday and 11am–8pm Friday. Tell the office if arriving outside those hours. Sites must be vacated by 10am.

Only one vehicle is allowed per site. Boats up to 4.5m including trailer may be accommodated depending on the allocated position; longer combinations need prior approval. Visitor vehicles remain outside the campground.

Choosing a site#

The official campground page accepts caravans, tents, swags and camper trailers. Powered and unpowered choices include:

• shadier bush positions set back among vegetation; and
• more open sites closer to the dunes and beach.

Shade, wind exposure and privacy therefore vary substantially. One setup is allowed per site, and tents, ropes and gazebos must stay at least 0.9m inside the allocated boundary. Do not tie anything to trees: the operator warns that branches can fall, especially during storms and strong winds.

Powered sites require a tested and tagged 15-amp lead; household extension leads are not accepted. Generators are prohibited, so select powered inventory if the setup cannot operate independently.

Facilities, water and beach safety#

Facilities include toilets, showers, laundry, camp kitchen, barbecues, fridge, microwave, device charging, dump point, kiosk, accessible toilet, drinking water and a beach shower. All campground taps provide drinkable water, but conservation is requested.

Grey water must be contained and emptied at the dump point, not onto the ground or into kitchen sinks. The campground has minimal lighting, so bring a torch for movement after dark.

The adjacent beach is not patrolled. Swim and drive to conditions, and obtain the appropriate Queensland Parks vehicle-access permit before taking a vehicle onto the beach. Reaching the campground on the sealed road does not itself require that permit.

Pets are strictly prohibited. Quiet hours are 10pm–7am, and the internal speed limit is 5km/h.

Fires and cooking#

The campground permits small fires only for cooking in a brazier supplied or approved by management. Fires must stay controlled and supervised, be extinguished with water, and have the coals placed in the provided drums.

During a declared fire ban, all wood fires, braziers, heat beads, Oz-pigs and other ash-producing appliances are prohibited. Confirm conditions with management rather than assuming the general permission applies on the day.

What campers say#

Patterns across Tripadvisor, CamperMate, the operator's displayed reviews and a detailed 2026 independent account provide useful practical context:

• Campers consistently value being behind the dunes with easy beach access, wildlife and a natural atmosphere.
• Bush positions are repeatedly described as shadier and more secluded; open beachfront positions trade shade for proximity and outlook.
• Clean amenities and helpful staff recur across independent and operator-displayed reviews.
• The vehicle ferry adds cost and planning but is generally described as straightforward; the sealed 2WD access is a major advantage.
• Kangaroos and other wildlife are part of the experience. Secure food and rubbish, and do not feed animals.
• Some travellers consider the tariff high for camping, while others see the setting and maintained amenities as worth the premium.

These are traveller-reported patterns, not guarantees about shade, wildlife, cleanliness, ferry queues or value.

Booking and cancellation terms#

Book through the official booking portal. The minimum deposit is currently $50, or $700 for bookings longer than 28 days. The total stay is payable before or on arrival for standard bookings.

At least 28 days' notice is required for a normal refund. Every cancellation or date change attracts a $32 administration fee. A request made within 28 days needs Noosa Council approval, can take up to a week to process and is not guaranteed. Any approved credit lasts 12 months from the original booking date.
