Bellingen Showground

Decide if town-access camping suits you, choose powered or unpowered ground, understand event restrictions, arrival, current rates, facilities and trade-offs.

Bellingen Showground is for travellers who value walk-to-town convenience, hot showers and a practical overnight base more than bush seclusion. It can work especially well for a caravan or motorhome stop where cafés, shops and the river precinct matter more than a resort pool or camp kitchen.

It is not a “turn up whenever” showground. Bookings are essential, major events can remove normal availability, and the official page warns that event and large-rig charges may differ. Choose a holiday park instead if a guaranteed kitchen, recreation facilities or a fixed resort-style site layout is central to the trip.

Best site means the right allocation, not a secret number#

The operator lists powered and unpowered sites, easy access for campervans, motorhomes and horse transport, but publishes no current pitch plan or numbered-site comparison. That means shade, distance, exact surface and quietness cannot be ranked responsibly online.

When booking, give the Camping Coordinator your total rig length, power need, arrival time, pets and any mobility constraint. On arrival, check:

  • whether the allocated ground is clear of event infrastructure and through-traffic;
  • the slope and drainage, especially after Mid North Coast rain;
  • branches and the legal awning footprint;
  • the walking route to the correct amenities block;
  • whether a longer vehicle can leave without another camper moving.

For the shortest town walk, ask for the lawful camping area nearest the pedestrian exit—but accept that event layout may be more important. For sleep, ask which available ground is least affected by gates, roads and function activity. These are questions for the current coordinator, not promises from an old review.

Arrival: confirm the gate and window before travel#

The showground sits close to central Bellingen, but public directories disagree about the best entrance and recent traveller reports mention set arrival windows. The official page does not publish one permanent gate instruction or check-in period beyond strict 10am checkout.

Use the gate and arrival instructions in the live confirmation. If they are absent, call the Camping Coordinator on 0490 537 047 between 9am and 5pm before the final drive. Do not assume Black Street or Hammond Street is open for camping simply because a directory says so.

Once directed to your area, confirm power and amenities before fully levelling. The site is not a permanently vacant transit stop: event fencing, horses, markets and functions can change how the grounds operate.

What is provided—and what is not#

Male, female and disabled amenities are listed, and camping rates include showers. Powered and unpowered ground are available. There is no camp kitchen or cooking facility, so bring your own compliant stove, meal plan, washing tub and food storage rather than expecting showground sinks for meal preparation.

A corner store is across the road and town is about a five-minute walk, which reduces the need to carry every meal. Pets must remain on lead and cannot be left unattended. “Disabled amenities” does not prove the assigned site-to-bathroom path is step-free; confirm the actual route if accessibility is decisive.

A worthwhile low-driving Bellingen day#

Use the location advantage: walk into the town centre for breakfast and supplies, then continue to the Bellinger River precinct only on formed public routes and return before weather or darkness complicates the showground crossing. The page describes the river as nearby but does not promise a campground swimming area; check local signs and conditions rather than treating proximity as permission or safety advice.

On an event weekend, build the day around the event you booked for and verify pedestrian re-entry arrangements. On a normal night, the short town walk is the distinctive benefit—the showground is a base for Bellingen, not the destination resort.

What campers say#

Ten visible CamperMate reports repeatedly praise the walk to town and generally describe showers and toilets as clean. Several 2024–2025 reports also warn that arrival timing is less flexible than traditional showground camping.

WikiCamps reinforces the central location and practical RV access but gives entrance and dump-point details that are not on the operator’s current page. Treat those as prompts to ask, not authoritative facilities. Reports span different managers and event conditions, so current booking instructions win.

Rates, booking and alternatives#

Checked 29 September 2026, standard powered rates are $26 single or $36 couple; unpowered rates are $21 single or $31 couple. Children 5–16 are $11, each extra adult $16 and under-fives are free. The operator has announced an increase from 1 January 2027. Event pricing, rig charges and minimum conditions may differ. A cancellation needs 24 hours’ notice for a refund under the published standard rule.

For more natural surroundings and less town access, compare current booking and road conditions at a nearby national-park campground. For a pool, kitchen or fixed recreational facilities, compare a serviced Coffs Coast holiday park. Neither is automatically a substitute for Bellingen’s five-minute town walk.

Before paying, verify that camping is operating on your dates, the exact gate and arrival process, the live total for every person and rig, and the allocated site class. If normal sites are unavailable during an event, change accommodation—do not assume there will be overflow grass.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much is camping at Bellingen Showground?

Checked 29 September 2026: powered sites are $26 single or $36 couple; unpowered are $21 single or $31 couple, plus listed extra-person charges. Event, large-rig and seasonal charges can differ, and rates rise from 1 January 2027, so the live quote controls.

Which site is best at Bellingen Showground?

No current public site plan supports a numbered favourite. Ask the Camping Coordinator to match powered or unpowered ground to rig length, current event setup and mobility needs, then inspect drainage, trees, traffic and the amenities route before final positioning.

Does Bellingen Showground have a camp kitchen?

No. The official page explicitly says there are no cooking or kitchen facilities. Bring a lawful self-contained cooking setup and food storage; a corner store is across the road and town is about a five-minute walk.

Are showers, toilets and accessible amenities available?

Yes. The operator lists male, female and disabled amenities, with showers included in the camping rate. Confirm the path and assigned ground with the coordinator if step-free access or an accessible bathroom is essential.

Can I bring a dog and arrive without booking?

Pets are allowed on lead and must not be left unattended. Bookings are essential, and camping can be restricted or unavailable during major events, so do not rely on a late walk-in vacancy.
