Beach camping zone 6 covers Eugarie, Yurru and Guruman on K’gari's eastern beach between The Pinnacles and Dundubara. The clearings sit behind steep dunes in coastal woodland, giving more wind shelter than an exposed foreshore pitch while keeping the beach, fishing and sandblows close.

This remains self-sufficient camping. There are no toilets, showers, taps, bins or picnic tables, and the booking is for the zone rather than a numbered private site. It suits prepared high-clearance 4WD travellers who can manage waste, water, sand driving and wongari safety without campground infrastructure.

Choosing Eugarie, Yurru or Guruman#

All three named areas fall within the same zone. Queensland Parks does not promise a particular clearing or facility difference between them, so choose an already-established space that safely fits the setup without driving over vegetation. Sand firmness, shade, wind and separation from neighbours can vary on arrival.

The Pinnacles are about 1km south of the zone, while Dundubara lies just north. The beach is also a gazetted road used by vehicles and sometimes aircraft. Keep tents, children and equipment behind the dunes and away from the traffic corridor.

Do not create a new access track or camp on the foredune itself. A clearing that looks empty may be recovering vegetation or unsafe in high wind. If no established space safely fits the group, move within the permitted zone rather than enlarging one. Photograph or save the official zone map before arrival because the named areas are easier to confuse once offline.

4WD, tide and permit planning#

Access is by registered high-clearance 4WD with low range. The Pinnacles are 68.1km north of Hook Point, and Queensland Parks limits practical Eastern Beach travel to roughly two hours either side of low tide. Build in enough margin for creek crossings, soft sand, washouts, pedestrians and waiting for a safer window.

Arrange both the camping permit and K’gari vehicle access permit before arrival. Off-road camper trailers are listed as suitable, but that is not a guarantee that every rig or day's sand conditions will be manageable. Carry a compressor, tyre gauge, shovel and rated recovery equipment, and know how to use them.

No facilities, fires or fence#

Zone 6 has no facilities. Bring a portable toilet, potable water, rubbish and toilet-waste storage, shade, food protection and supplies for delays. Remove all waste to an authorised disposal point; do not bury or burn it.

Open fires are prohibited across K’gari except in specified QPWS rings at Dundubara and Waddy Point. Generators no larger than 2kVA and quieter than 65dB may run from 9am to 9pm, subject to current conditions. Mobile reception is intermittent.

The zone is unfenced wongari habitat. Secure food and rubbish, never feed or attract wildlife, supervise children and consider a fenced campground if travelling with young children. Check the latest K’gari conditions report and park alerts before every trip.

Plan sanitation before booking, not after reaching camp. A portable toilet must be stable on sand, and all waste needs to travel to an authorised disposal point. Keep food, bait and rubbish inside a vehicle or locked container whenever unattended. Salt spray and wind can also make an apparently mild forecast hard on tents, so use sand pegs and avoid leaving an awning deployed when away.

Exact, recent public discussion comparing Eugarie, Yurru and Guruman is sparse. Public WikiCamps listings for Eugarie and Guruman confirm that travellers treat them as separate named clearings within one zone, but their accessible pages do not establish a reliable review consensus.

An independent K’gari camping overview places zone 6 on the more remote northern part of Eastern Beach. Use that only as broad orientation: current tide, erosion, shelter and traffic conditions matter more than an old campsite preference. The defensible advice is to inspect an established clearing on arrival and keep a fallback plan.
