Chrome Extension Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 April 2026

About this policy

This privacy policy applies specifically to the CampWatch Quick Alert Chrome browser extension. For the full CampWatch service privacy policy, see our main privacy policy.

What the extension does

The CampWatch Quick Alert extension detects when you are browsing a supported Australian park booking website and offers to set up a campsite availability alert through CampWatch. It reads the current page URL to identify which campground you are viewing and pre-fills alert details.

Data we collect

  • Phone number — Your Australian mobile number, entered by you to receive SMS availability alerts. Stored locally in Chrome storage and transmitted to CampWatch servers for SMS verification and alert delivery.
  • Page URL — The URL of supported booking site pages you visit is read locally by the extension to detect the campground and extract dates. URLs are not sent to CampWatch servers.
  • Campground preferences — Your chosen campground, dates, and party size are sent to CampWatch servers to create availability alerts.
  • Verification status — A local flag indicating whether your phone number has been verified, stored in Chrome storage to avoid repeat SMS verification.

Data we do not collect

  • Browsing history or activity on non-supported websites
  • Page content, cookies, or login credentials from booking sites
  • Location data or device identifiers
  • Analytics or tracking data from extension usage

How data is stored

Your phone number and verification status are stored locally in your browser using the chrome.storage.local API. This data stays on your device and is not synced across browsers. You can clear it at any time by removing the extension.

Campground directory data is cached locally to enable offline campground detection and is refreshed daily from CampWatch servers.

Third-party services

The extension communicates only with CampWatch servers (campwatch.com.au) to create alerts and verify your phone number. SMS messages are delivered via Twilio. No data is shared with any other third party.

Permissions explained

  • storage — Save your phone number and verification status locally so you don't need to re-enter them.
  • activeTab — Read the current tab's URL when you visit a supported booking site to detect the campground.
  • alarms — Schedule daily campground data refreshes.
  • Host access to campwatch.com.au — Communicate with CampWatch servers to create alerts and verify your phone number.

Your rights

You can remove the extension at any time, which deletes all locally stored data. To delete your CampWatch alerts and phone number from our servers, text STOP to any CampWatch SMS or visit campwatch.com.au.
