Peach Trees camping area

Peach Trees is for groups who want freedom to spread out on grass beside Yabba Creek, with flush toilets and room for tents, caravans, camper trailers, campervans and motorhomes. Its 300-person open area feels wonderfully spacious off-peak and much less private when full. There are no numbered pitches, no generators and no safe drinking-water supply.

Choose it for creek-side family time, a large group or a self-contained rig that does not need power. Skip it if you want a guaranteed private pitch, supplied hot showers, potable taps or certainty that a quiet midweek photo predicts a holiday weekend.

“Best site” means inspecting the open field#

QPWS publishes an open grassy area rather than separately defined sites. That makes any numbered recommendation false. Before unhitching, inspect:

• firm, level ground that fits the entire vehicle, awning and guyline footprint;
• a safe margin from Yabba Creek and any drainage line, especially after rain;
• the path to toilets versus foot traffic through the camp;
• distance from shared fire rings and neighbouring smoke;
• a clear exit for a caravan or motorhome without relying on another camper moving.

For young children, a convenient family cluster can beat the most isolated creek edge because supervision and toilet trips are easier. For privacy, move away from the busiest communal path only after confirming the ground and legal camping boundary. No public source proves pitch-level shade or flood-free ground.

A separately identified wheelchair-friendly site for up to four people is available to eligible users. It requires the relevant vehicle display and its own booking; an accessible toilet does not make every part of a large grass field independently accessible.

Arrival: use the route that matches your vehicle#

The official approach is along Kilcoy-Murgon Road and then a 4km unsealed access road, which QPWS lists for 2WD vehicles. The alternative approaches via Sunday Creek Road or Yabba Creek Road require 4WD in dry weather. Do not let navigation software silently exchange those routes.

Arrive after 2pm with the permit tag or booking number ready to display. In an unmarked campground, confirm the legal camping area, walk the proposed footprint and exit, and only then unhitch or build a large group setup. Locate the flush toilets, shared fire rings and creek boundary. There is no powered-site or staffed-reception promise.

The park reported no current alerts when checked, but weather can change an unsealed approach and creek-side ground quickly. Check Jimna alerts and maps just before departure.

Water, fires and comfort#

Water is pumped from Yabba Creek and may contain organisms that cause illness. QPWS says to bring drinking water. Do not translate “water at taps” into “potable”; carry all drinking and cooking supply, and treat any creek-derived water only with a method appropriate to the risk.

There are flush toilets, including an accessible toilet, but no listed showers or power. Generators are prohibited. Fires belong in shared rings only when bans permit. Bring clean, untreated milled firewood and a fuel stove; collecting wood is not an option.

Mobile coverage is intermittent. QPWS notes an Optus tower about 4km away may help some users, which is not a reliability promise. Save maps and permits offline and agree on a group meeting point.

A worthwhile day from one base#

Make Yabba Creek the low-logistics centre of the day only after inspecting depth, current and water quality. Public family reports describe cold water and deeper pockets, so children need close supervision and flotation equipment is not a substitute for it.

For a dry activity, QPWS permits mountain biking on state-forest roads and vehicle tracks, not designated walking tracks. Choose a signed route, wear a helmet, carry water and turn around before the trip depends on mobile directions. Horse riders can use the adjacent paddock for up to 20 horses with their own electric tape; horses are not allowed in the camping area.

What campers say#

CamperMate's six public reports repeatedly value the quiet setting and basic toilets, while correctly warning that tap water is not fit to drink. A detailed Tripadvisor visitor report found very low midweek occupancy, clean toilets and a rough final track that was manageable with care.

A separate family trip report values creek play but notes cold and deeper water. These sources support the crowd, road and supervision trade-offs; they do not establish today's ground, safe swimming or current fees.

Alternatives worth comparing#

• Charlie Moreland camping area is the stronger alternative when Imbil forest access and its own creek/road setting suit the route, but wet-weather creek crossings and equipment rules require a fresh official check.
• Jimna Base Camp is a private option when hot showers, flush amenities and a smaller managed property matter more than camping in the state forest.
